What is spike bulldog?

Spike Bulldog is a fictional character in the animated cartoon series Tom and Jerry. He is a muscular bulldog with a tan coat and black ears. Spike is known for his tough exterior, but he is also a caring father and fiercely protective of his son Tyke. Spike is often seen as a foil to Tom, the antagonist of the series, and will come to the aid of Jerry if he feels that Tom is being too aggressive. In some episodes, Spike and Tom will put their differences aside and team up to accomplish a common goal. Spike's first appearance was in the 1942 Tom and Jerry animated short, "Dog Trouble."
